Virtual CD Track Fourteen: Clamorous
Okay, so here's my effort to balance out a few too many droney, spacy tracks in a row. Track fourteen is nothing but ROCK - guitar, bass, and drums! I'm not saying it will lighten the mood of the Virtual CD at all, but I think it's a welcome contrast to all the synthesis....

This track was built on drums that I actually recorded back in August. I'd recently purchased a new double bass drum pedal, and was giving it a workout... Once upon a time, back in the early 90's, I'd tried the double-kick thing and determined that I just wasn't all that great at it. My left foot dexterity and independence was just way behind my right. I tried it for a short time and got frustrated at how sloppy I sounded, so I ended up using the second pedal for my electronic kit, and not trying again until this year. I'm not really sure what inspired me to try again. I guess years of listening to great drummers doing things I couldn't do finally got to me! I was ready to weep aloud while listening to Gavin Harrison! Anyway, I'm a bit more serious about it this time, and have been practicing it regularly. My skill set yet doesn't go much beyond the 16-note type of pattern heard here, but I'm trying.
The fast kick drum pattern seemed to require some fast bass, and that's the second thing that was recorded. Since I'd decided that this would be a "rock" song I went for the drop-D tuning. Playing this kind of fast riff on the one detuned bass string is like playing with a big rubber band.
I finally got some new guitar tones, thanks to Native Instruments Guitar Rig 3, which is a guitar amp simulator. I recently upgraded to Sonar 8 PE (which is the software I used to record this music), and this was bundled with it (along with a million other new toys). The lead guitar sound here feels kind of Billy Corgan-ish (Christina says it's "whiny!").
I toyed around with developing or expanding this track, but it didn't seem to be appropriate. The best I could do was the harmony guitar on the very last iteration of the main melody.
So, fickle audience, what do you think? What now? More music like this? More ambient stuff? More strings? What do you want?!

Sounds good and I especially liked the strings in the first portion. More strings!

I for one like it. I remember the golden age of the MTV generation, and a prime time television show to come out of that era was Miami Vice. nothing was better than seeing Tubs and Crockett chasing down some vicious Miami Drug dealer. This song takes me back to Miami, back to when men didn't wear socks and could wear pastel shirts with white jackets, and look cool. I love this track. Once again Bruce baby, you are a true master of music. Put out more tracks like this one.

Thanks for the comments! It's true, I was not wearing any socks when I recorded this. I'm glad that came through in the mix...
